The city has a population from a myriad of ethnic and religious backgrounds and one of the largest LGBT communities in the U.S. Over 41 colleges and universities are located within its metropolitan area, which is the most of any metropolitan area in Texas. The Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex hosts 23 Fortune 500 companies, the second-most in Texas and fourth-most in the United States, and 11 of those companies are located within Dallas city limits. ĭominant sectors of its diverse economy include defense, financial services, information technology, telecommunications, and transportation.
In addition, Dallas has DART ( Dallas Area Rapid Transit) with different colored train lines that transport throughout the Metroplex. The construction of the Interstate Highway System reinforced Dallas's prominence as a transportation hub, with four major interstate highways converging in the city and a fifth interstate loop around it. ĭallas and nearby Fort Worth were initially developed as a product of the construction of major railroad lines through the area allowing access to cotton, cattle, and later oil in North and East Texas. that lacks any navigable link to the sea. We were not rushed, and totally enjoyed the atmosphere and wait staff. Since the experience was so pleasant, I would go again. I had the half order seafood salad, and half order of sea bass (the lunch special, which was substantial) and we shared a pecan ball for dessert. The food was good enough, but not stellar in either taste or presentation.
From this New York visitor's standpoint, this seems like the place to see and be seen in Dallas. Looking around, you can't help but notice how well dressed the patrons are. The dining room is casually elegant, with linen tablecloths and lots of flowers-sort of a vintage country club vibe that blends well with the tony neighborhood. If you can't find something on this menu that appeals to you, you have a problem-it's literally pages long. The woman who waited on us was extremely personable and welcoming, and did an excellent job of describing and "romancing".
The front desk hostess was gracious, and we were seated at an especially nice table. I had lunch at Cafe Pacific on a weekday afternoon.
